Should I wait until the last moment to make a claim?

Print PDF

A claimant should not wait until the last moment to file a claim for a number of reasons. First, it is in the property owner’s best interest to file a claim shortly after becoming aware of the taking so as to prevent any question of the timeliness of the claim. Second, interest can be suspended if the claim is not filed within certain limited periods after the taking. Third, there is little purpose in delay. Why take the chance that the Statute of Limitations will bar your claim?
